I&M Bank has installed 22 solar-powered floodlights on the 18th hole at Entebbe Club. The lighting stretches from the tee box to the green, allowing golfers to play after dark for the first time at the course.
Each floodlight includes a 105-watt solar panel, a 560WH battery, and produces 21,600 lumens with a daylight-equivalent color temperature of 5700K. The upgrade addresses a common problem at the club where players often run out of daylight before completing their rounds.
The lights were officially launched on May 31 during the second leg of the I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series. To mark the occasion, a night golf one-shot challenge was held. Peace Hellen won the challenge and received a prize of 500,000 shillings.
I&M Bank CEO Robin Bairstow said the lighting fulfills a promise made during the first leg in March and significantly improves the playing experience at Entebbe Club.
“We promised to light up the 18th hole; right from the tee box, all through the fairway, up to the greens. I am happy to share that we have delivered on our promise. You now don’t have to rush through your last hole when it gets dark. Whether you’re chasing a birdie, or simply soaking in the beauty of the game, we’ve ensured that your experience remains uninterrupted,” Bairstow said.
In the main competition, Team Kyaayi Mukalu made up of Mukasa Mulema and Abbas Luyombo won the men’s category with 40 points. Team Hot Birdies and Bling, featuring Edith Wamalwa and Anne Abeja, led the ladies’ category with 37 points.
The I&M Bank Katogo Series returns on August 9.
