Uganda Women’s Golf Team Primed for Regional Glory at EACAACT 2025

The Uganda Ladies Golf Union (ULGU), in partnership with the Uganda Golf Union and the National Council of Sports (NCS), officially flagged off the Uganda National Ladies Golf Team on Friday ahead of their participation in the 2025 East & Central Africa All-Africa Challenge Trophy (EACAACT).

The send-off ceremony took place at the National Council of Sports headquarters in Lugogo, Kampala, with team officials and supporters in attendance to witness the occasion.

The 2025 edition of the EACAACT is scheduled to take place from 20th to 25th October at the Great Rift Valley Lodge & Golf Resort in Naivasha, Kenya. This prestigious tournament, established in 2013, is a regional extension of the continental All-Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) and aims to advance women’s amateur golf while fostering regional unity and sports tourism.

Uganda will be represented by a three-lady team selected based on national order-of-merit rankings. The squad is composed of:

Peace Kabasweka – Team Captain

Meron Kyomugisha

Keisha Kagoro – Junior representative

They will be guided by Coach Flavia Namakula and managed by Charity Atuhaire, with additional support from Paul Habyarimana.

The team is scheduled to depart for Kenya on 18th October 2025 via Uganda Airlines, proudly representing the nation and the growing community of women golfers in Uganda.

Championship Format

The EACAACT is played over 54 holes in a team stroke-play format, with the best two scores from the three players counting towards the team total each day. The team with the lowest cumulative score over three rounds will be crowned the regional champion. In addition to the team competition, individual awards for Best Gross and Best Nett performances will also be contested.

Participating countries in this year’s tournament include Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Zambia, Madagascar, and Reunion.

ULGU President Rita Apell Akot expressed confidence in the team and gratitude to stakeholders, saying:

“This tournament is a significant opportunity for our ladies to gain international exposure and represent Uganda with pride. We are deeply thankful to the Uganda Golf Union, National Council of Sports, the R&A, Uganda Airlines, Stanbic Bank, Neptune, Challengers, and all our sponsors and partners for their invaluable support.”

The EACAACT plays a vital role in developing competitive standards in women’s golf, preparing players for international competition, and promoting sports diplomacy and tourism in the region.
