Rugumayo is taking his European debut as a learning for better performance in the near future

Ronald Rugumayo is part of 156 players vying for the 260,000 Euros (Shs1.03b) kitty in Golf PGA France du Vaudreuil tournament  in Normandy, Northern France this weekend.

This is the third time for Rugumayo to play in Europe since making history as the first Ugandan to make the cut a DP World Tour event, the Magical Kenya Open in February this year.

His first tournament in Germany was forgettable but when he started the Challenge Tour in France last week, he showed sparks of brilliance, carding 69, before retuning 8-over 78 on Day Two.

“I was unfortunate on Day 2, but I gave it my best shot,” he said.

This week’s event is chance for Rugumayo to make his mark in Europe, before returning to the Sunshine Tour where he plays in South Africa.

“I am excited to be here (Europe). Africa and this place are very different. Personally, it means a lot to me being the first Ugandan and East African to play on the challenge tour in France. It means a lot. I am already living my dream but the goal this week is to go out and give it my best and let things happen. This is just the beginning. A few years from now, I want to see more Ugandans here doing the same thing or even better than this” he spoke to the DP World Tour team in an exclusive interview.

“It has been a great experience. I must admit playing at this stage is a big platform,” Rugumayo says.

“Much as I haven’t performed well, I will take the learnings to shape my game and will come back in the near future as a better contender,” the 31-year-old says.

“My goal is simple. To just play my game. My confidence gets better by every other opportunity to play and I believe God will make everything else work together for good,” he says.
